The 1619 Read-In is an annual event that celebrates Black authors and raises awareness of books that have been challenged or banned across the United States. For the past two years, Get Wright Consulting has led the creative direction and branding for the event, developing a visual identity that honors Black literature, education, and cultural heritage.

This year's campaign featured hand-illustrated typography and original illustrations of celebrated Black authors on the commemorative tote bag. The design incorporated the Pan-African colors to align with the 1619 Freedom School's identity and symbolize heritage, resilience, and unity. A vintage typewriter-inspired font was used throughout the branding to represent books, authorship, and the power of storytelling. Every design element was intentionally crafted to create an engaging visual experience that celebrated literacy, creativity, and the enduring impact of Black voices.
